Shirell Parfait-Dardar is the first female chief of her southern Louisiana tribe, championing her people's legacy on the frontlines of the climate and environmental crisis. She is a lifelong resident of coastal Louisiana, a grandmother, and a deeply dedicated community leader. As the owner of Dardar’s Bayou Plant Nursery, LLC, she blends her entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for natural wellness and environmental stewardship, educating others on how to reconnect with nature. A dedicated leader in cultural and environmental preservation, she is a founding member of the First People’s Conservation Council of Louisiana, where she has served in both Presidential and Secretary roles. Her extensive policy work includes serving a four-year term as the first Chairwoman of the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Indian Affairs Native American Commission and acting as the sole Indigenous representative on the Louisiana Governor's Climate Initiatives Task Force. Shirell’s leadership extends into vital state and global initiatives. Alongside her tribal leadership and conservation efforts, she is an Ordained Minister of the Universal Life Church, a traditional dressmaker, and a published author, continuously advocating for community resiliency, the inclusion of Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and the rights of the environment and living beings.
